Researchers conducted a study as a comparison between pramiracetam and its predecessor, piracetam. The study was to judge the effectiveness of each compound on memory retention,

In the study, researchers administered 15, 30, or 60mg per kilogram of weight of the pramiracetam to some of the mice. Others received 100, 200, or 400mg per kilogram of piracetam. Observations were then made after one minute and 24 hours. 

Interestingly enough, at the one minute mark, the mice showed a marked interest in the task at hand, while at the 24 hour mark, the rats were less inclined to care about the task. However, pramiracetam at 30mg/kg showed a marked improvement in retention whereas piracetam did not at the 24 hour mark.

Nitric Oxide and Pramiracetam 

In a second study, researchers tested pramiracetam to determine whether or not it had any effect on nitric oxide synthase. Researchers primarily focused on activity in both the hippocampus and cerebral cortex of the rats involved in the process. Rats given a dose of 300mg/kg saw an increase in nitric oxide synthase of 20%. 

Rats that had been treated with lithium chloride 24 hours prior to the administration of pramiracetam saw a 40% increase in nitric oxide synthase. Because of these results, researchers surmised that pramiracetam can benefit users with memory improvements when used accordingly.
