What is MOTS-c?

MOTS-c, or mitochondrial-derived peptide MOTS-c, is the SSU rRNA of the mitochondrial ribosome. This is just a fancy way of saying it is a protein complex that’s typically active in mitochondria. It functions as a riboproteins which helps in the translation of mitochondrial mRNA ensconced in mtDNA.
