In one of the studies completed by its creators, Ligand Pharmaceuticals, Ligandrol was tested to see its effects on osteopenic female rats. For this particular study, a twelve week time frame was carved out to assess the effects. The doses of LGD 4033 were varied throughout the study with rats receiving at minimum a dose of 0.03mg/kg and at most 0.3mg/kg per day. Throughout the course of the study and at the conclusion it was found that those female rats that were treated with Ligandrol had an increase in both the bending strength of their bones as well as the bone density.

A study done with humans that was published in 2010, 76 healthy men were subject to various dosages of LGD 4033. The men were first divided into four groups with one group as the placebo. This particular group did not receive the LGD 4033 treatment. The remaining three groups were either administered various dosages depending on which group they were respectively assigned to. The study ran a total of twenty one days and once this twenty one day period was completed it was surmised that LGD 4033 was well tolerated by the test subjects. In addition to this information it was also deduced that even with LGD 4033 taken over a shorter period of time, participants saw an increase in lean muscle mass.
