The best way to describe it is that the blood type diet is a diet that bases food choices on whether or not they are beneficial. By eating foods your body is not meant to eat, you’re essentially creating higher risk factors.

In reference to how the blood type diet works, it’s on a system of compliance. This means that you’ll primarily eat certain foods based on how beneficial they are for your blood type. Oftentimes this is decided by something called lectins. You’re also either a secretor or a nonsecretor when explained in this diet’s terms.

So how does your blood type have anything to do with what you can and cannot eat? Well, according to D’Adamo certain blood types became popular at certain times in history. For example, in reference to the “A” type blood type, it’s believed it became popular in the beginning stages of agriculture. This is why it is believed that blood type “A” can handle their vegetables and carbohydrates. On the flip side of that, while blood type “A” is able to digest vegetables and carbs easier, digesting animal proteins and fats are not as easy.

For the “A” blood type group, an organic vegetarian or primarily vegetarian diet is best. Again, this is because D’Adamo believed that this blood type became popular during the beginning of the agricultural phase. 

What does that mean for you if you’re the “A” blood type? It means that you’ll want to reduce the amounts of animal proteins and fats you consume. This of course isn’t to say that you can’t have them at all. It just means that you’ll want to limit them. So, what’s acceptable to eat?
